Symposium “Towards Formulation of National Action Plan on Business and Human Rights “

In late 2016, the Japanese government announced that it would formulate a National Action Plan (NAP) to implement the UN Guiding Principles on Business and Human Rights in the coming years. Japanese companies are expected to take further steps in terms of their CSR and legal compliance practices, as well as their sustainability strategies.

For this conference, the Japan Federation of Bar Association (JFBA) will invite Dr. Surya Deva, a member of the UN Working Group on Business and Human Rights, to share his views on the role of the NAP and his expectations for Japan. We will also organize a panel discussion by stakeholders from various sectors, inviting the public sector, corporations, institutional investors, and civil society organizations. The discussion will be based on the research report prepared by attorneys on the baseline assessment of business and human rights in Japan and the priorities for the NAP.
