The Launch of a JFBA Comprehensive Center for Continuing Legal Education
The Japan Federation of Bar Associations (the “JFBA”) newly established a “JFBA Comprehensive Center for Continuing Legal Education” (the “Comprehensive Center”) in June 2013 in order to conduct its legal training programs more flexibly and practically. The conventional JFBA Center for Continuing Legal Education was reorganized into the JFBA Committee on Continuing Legal Education (the “Committee”). The Comprehensive Center, whose main activities are as described below, will strive to further enhance the provision of training programs.
“Tour Training Programs” Marking the Launch of the Comprehensive Center
In addition to conventional live practical training (i.e. the former Special Training), e-learning and so forth, “Tour Training Programs”, a program in which lecturers visit regional federations of bar associations to conduct a sequential training program, comprising four lectures in total on the subject of inheritance, will be conducted by June 2014 (and will also be provided via the Internet (e-learning training) at a later date) in order to mark the launch of the Comprehensive Center. Additionally, together with the training, a meeting to exchange opinions will also be held to ensure that the training programs are even more effective and useful.

Renewal of the JFBA Comprehensive Website for Continuing Legal Education
The JFBA will launch a new “JFBA Comprehensive Website for Continuing Legal Education” (tentatively named) from this coming December, which will feature functions such as i) a “Single Sign-On (SSO)” function automatically linking the logged on user to the JFBA members-only pages, and ii) a newly-added double-speed replay function for the videos in relation to the training programs. With these newly added functions, the website will become even more user-friendly and easy to use.
Reduction in Fees for the Training Passport for Young JFBA Member Attorneys
As one of the supporting measures aimed at improving the legal skills of young JFBA member attorneys, in line with the renewal of the JFBA website for continuing legal education, the current 10,000 yen annual fee for a training passport (i.e. the system which allows members to take special training and e-learning courses at any time and as often as they wish) will be reduced from December 2013 (scheduled timing), to i) free of charge for JFBA member attorneys with less than two years of legal experience since registration, and ii) five thousand yen for JFBA members with two to four years experience since registration, (as for members who have been registered for five years or more, the passport fee will remain unchanged at 10,000 yen.) We have a high hope that young attorneys will utilize the system actively and effectively. (For details, please refer to the JFBA members-only pages)
