On June 25, 2008, the
Japan Federation of Bar Associations (JFBA) entered an agreement
of collaboration with the Japan International Cooperation Agency
(JICA).
Mr. Miyazaki, JFBA President, visited the Headquarters of the
JICA and had a meeting with Ms. Sadako Ogata, JICA President.
After the meeting, they signed the agreement.
The JFBA has been cooperating in legal technical assistance
projects conducted by the JICA since 1995. Being commissioned
by the JICA, the JFBA is currently assisting the Center for
Lawyer Training and Legal Professional Improvement in the Kingdom
of Cambodia. It is also cooperating in other JICA projects including
technical assistance for revising the Code of Civil Procedure
and the Arbitration Law in China and for creating systems of
conciliation and meditation in Indonesia. Furthermore, six of
JFBA members have been dispatched to Mongolia, China, Indonesia,
Vietnam, and Cambodia (two members) as JICA long-term experts
and they are actively working for these countries.
This agreement aims to further enhance a broad range of cooperation
in the fields of legal technical assistance by nurturing experts,
receiving trainees, dispatching lectures, and so on.
At the signing ceremony, Ms. Ogata expressed her expectation
for the legal technical assistance and Mr. Miyazaki promised
cooperation for the JICA in line with the JFBA policies.
